Kimball is working on the basic commands like sit, down (lay down) and stand. He is getting better at some more complicated commands like load up (get in the car), you're free (eat your meal), and go place (settle on your bed.) He is really improving. He now knows that we have to say "You're free," before he can eat breakfast or dinner. He always sits next to the bowl, staring at it until we give him the command to eat. He sits next to the bowl and we don't even have to tell him because he just wants that food so bad. While he waits, he sometimes even drools!
Kimball is a really good listener, and is still working on the basic commands. When I tell him to sit, he usually gets unfocused before he sits. He needs to learn that the more he gets unfocused, the more I wait until he does the command. He is also working on the command stand. He knows when to stand, and he needs to focus when I do the hand motion. When Kimball knows the commands better, he will be able to earn a jacket that says GUIDE DOG IN TRAINING. PLEASE DO NOT PET. When Kimball knows not only the basics, but the complicated commands too, I know he will earn his jacket in a heartbeat.

training your dog sounds really cool. the more i read about how your training is going, the more i'm thinking of doing what you're doing and getting one of my own! do you think it will it be hard to give him up when he's ready to leave? (even though he'll be helping someone who really need him).
keep writing about how he is progressing. i'm really enjoying it!

You are doing such a great job helping Kimball learn all of the commands he needs to know. I remember when he first arrived he wouldn't even sit for me, he would only do it for you!
i love hearing about how the training is coming. keep me updated. i love you

i am very interested in the training you are providing. please keep a log telling about your progress. i may want to get involved in this myself.

I do think it will be hard to give Kimball up. When you give the dog back, you know the dog has a purpose. You know he/she will become a future guide dog. It's not like a pet dying. You know the dog has a reason. Since I'm only 10 years old, it will be harder for me to give Kimball back. If you decide to get a puppy, I would love to hear all the fun moments you have with your pup. I'll keep putting posts up on my blog and I hope to hear from you again!
Love,
Elisa
